Minyama is a suburb located within the Kawana Waters urban centre. Situated on the Mooloolah River, the suburb is almost entirely surrounded by water, and artificially constructed harbours and waterways dominate the topography. The suburb's main thoroughfare, Nicklin Way, is the location of several large retail outlets. Kawana Shoppingworld is located just outside Minyama.
Canal living, access to Motorway, minutes to beaches
Kawana Shoppingworld consists of 110 stores, making it the second-largest regional shopping centre on the Sunshine Coast. The centre was originally opened in 1979 and has since undergone four refurbishments, most recently being the $25,000,000 redevelopment in 2002, in which a new food court was developed, along with the addition of more than 20 specialty stores and refurbishments throughout the centre. It is also one of the first shopping centres in Queensland to include a Big W discount department store, which underwent a transformation during the 2002 refurbishment. Other stores in the centre include Woolworths and Bi-Lo supermarkets and a JB Hi-Fi electrical and entertainment store. The centre also consists of over 1700 car parking spaces and the Kawana Bus Station.
Minyama is a luxury canal suburb located behind Mooloolaba Beach. It is extremely well positioned -- not only is it close to Mooloolaba, but it also has easy access to the rest of the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane due to its proximity to the Sunshine Motorway. The houses in Minyama are surrounded by water, with a large number of streets consisting entirely of waterfront blocks. Some homes are even situated on individual islands linked to the main canal development. There are also some high-density dwellings in the area and a number of unit complexes have been constructed over the last few years. Minyama has excellent access to the boutique retail outlets and dining facilities along the Mooloolaba esplanade. Sunshine Plaza is approximately 15 minutes away, with Kawana Shopping Centre located in neighbouring Buddina. Community facilities such as primary and high schools, the Cooloola Sunshine Institute of TAFE and the University of the Sunshine Coast are also close by. The Surf Life Saving Club at Mooloolaba Beach is a local landmark.
